Text messaging
Why am I unable to send text messages?
You will not be able to send text messages if your message centre number is missing. Simply visit an Airtel-Vodafone store or contact us on 121 from your Airtel-Vodafone mobile or 07829 700121 (Jersey) / 07839 700121 (Guernsey) if calling from a fixed line.
I have already set up the message centre number. Why am I still unable to send text messages?
If the problem persists, you will need to call us at 121 from your Airtel-Vodafone handset and one of our Customer Service Executives will resolve your problem.
What happens to my incoming text messages if my mobile phone is switched off or out of signal range?
When your mobile phone is switched off or out of signal range, our network will attempt to re-send the message to you at regular intervals for up to 24 hours.
Why didn’t the intended recipient receive my SMS?
Here are some possible causes for delays in the receiving of SMS:
- SIM card memory is full. The recipient should delete some unwanted messages to enable more memory space.
- The intended recipient did not turn on his phone or is not within coverage.
- The recipient’s battery power is depleted.
- The message centre may be experiencing congestion at that point in time – for example, at high usage times like New Year’s Eve.
How many characters can I fit in one text message?
Airtel-Vodafone uses the international standard for length of a text message, which is 160 characters, including spaces and punctuation.
