A mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) is a company that provides mobile phone service but does not have its own licensed frequency allocation of radio spectrum, nor does it necessarily have all of the infrastructure required to provide mobile telephone service.
Airtel-Vodafone welcomes new competition into the Jersey and Guernsey mobile telephony markets but is also mindful of the impact of mobile telephony networks on the precious landscapes and environments of both Jersey and Guernsey. Airtel-Vodafone believes that establishing strong MVNO opportunities enables competition to be strengthened without compromising the local environment through the construction of further mobile telephony networks and sites.
Through its relationship with Vodafone, Airtel-Vodafone has been able to draw on Vodafone’s global expertise in the MVNO arena to develop an effective MVNO framework which leverages on the operational excellence of the Airtel-Vodafone networks in Guernsey and Jersey, yet offers attractive commercial benefits to potential new entrants.
Airtel-Vodafone are keen to leverage their existing “One Network” approach and proven operational excellence to offer a viable MVNO framework solution. In line with Airtel-Vodafone’s mantra to “be easy to do business with”, the framework is designed to simplify the process of establishing an MVNO operation with a new partner and to provide potential new entrants with the necessary tools and support to speed up and enhance their entrance to the Jersey and Guernsey markets. Timescales cannot be guaranteed, but Airtel-Vodafone believes a new MVNO entrant could be operational within 12 months.
