Haiti Earthquake Appeal

A devastating earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale struck Haiti on 12 January 2010, killing hundreds and affecting thousands more.   The British Red Cross has already released £200,000 from its Disaster Fund to support the relief effort. However the sheer scale of this disaster means much more will be needed and Airtel-Vodafone have decided to assist the process by providing a free text service to its customers to donate in increments of £1 or £5.

Customers will need to text the word 'DONATE' to:

·        66609 for £5 donation

·        88808 for £1donation

If you would like to donate more you can send as many texts in as you like.

There is no standard network charge for the text, only the £1 or £5 will be deducted, and all of this will be going to the Red Cross

Pay-as-you-go customers will be deducted straight away from their accounts and pay monthly customers will be charged the amount they have donated in their next bill. These texts will not be covered by any FREE TEXT promotions or pay-monthly packages.

Iain Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Vodafone explains: “There are many people in the Channel Islands who may wish to donate towards the disaster and are not sure how to go about it.  We will be issuing a bulk text message to all our customers, which will highlight a way of helping the people of Haiti by simply texting a bespoke number."

Update: After the success of this campagin in January, we are keeping the lines open until further notice
